“...an artistically rewarding and great sounding recording with an emotional
immediacy that is impressive. A high level of interactive musicianship is displayed. Perhaps the biggest revelation on this CD is the consistent sophistication of the well crafted compositions. Rich Lamb is the composer, and while there is no doubt that this is a jazz recording brimming with improvisational skill, there is an almost "classical structure” underpinning the intelligent chord progressions and often beautiful and evocative melodies.” - Chris Brubeck,bassist/composer
Bassist Rich Lamb's debut CD of all original compositions... Featuring the great Ron Miles on cornet (currently playing with guitarist Bill Frizell), pianist Chuck Lamb (touring with the Brubeck Brothers and featured on their new release "Classified") and drummer Chris Lee (who leads his own group Primal Mates).
This is a creative and improvisational collection of Rich's music that he has written over the last 15 years. The recording was done in one session and the playing is inspired and interactive relying on the big ears of those involved. It was a pleasure.
"I’m loving the music—really nice vibe and gentle and relaxed and good sounds, good tunes, love the trumpet man’s approach. Good bass sound too! Thanks for sharing it and this is what it’s all about, making music and putting out more goodness into the world." - Peter Sprague guitarist / composer -San Diego, CA
"I just received your excellent CD. It sounds great, looks great, and is something you should be very proud of. The performances are all first rate, as is the writing, and I can tell this is a CD that will be getting 'heavy rotation' on my player." - Mike Metheny, trumpet/composer
Music Along The Way is bassist Rich Lamb's first CD. It is a collection of original jazz compositions similar to the writing of Brad Mehldau, Keith Jarrett, Tom Harrell and Oregon. There is an organic group sound as the music is delivered spontaneously and intuituvely.
Rich Lamb resides in the mountains of Colorado and, as it states in the liner notes, has put this music together to convey the beauty of the world he sees. Each piece is an ode to what he loves and cares about, which offers a music completely natural and thoroughly original. And as with an 8700 feet above sea level atmosphere, the music is a breath of fresh air.
"...I have immensely enjoyed the music from “Music Along the Way”. We have played the music heavily since it came in here… It remains fresh in my ears from day to day, and that says quite a bit with the amount of material I balance in the studio..."
